Specialist Training in Communicating with Service Users
Understand Positive Communication in Social Care ~ This course programme will look at the importance of positive communication as the very foundation of good practice in working with people with learning disabilities. it explores the ways in which communication can be the key to understanding an individual’s strengths and needs, and the ways in which we communicate needs to be built on respect and empathy. The teaching sessions in this course programme will focus on: defining ‘positive’ communication, the appropriate use of touch as a recognised form of positive communication, the role of record-keeping in positive communication, what is ‘positive’ communication?, when communication isn’t positive, respecting people - respectful language, principles of positive communication, the positive use of touch, principles for the appropriate use of touch, record keeping, case study, positive communication and people with challenging behaviour, pointers for good practice in positive communication.
Basic Makaton ~ This basic introduction course into Makaton use is aimed at social care workers and covers basic signs and Makaton symbols for communicating with service users who understand Makaton.
Communicating with Service Users with Special Needs ~ In order to communicate effectively, we use a range of skills and strategies. This course explores a variety of methods that can be used to communicate effectively with clients. This course will discuss the need for effective communication, and demonstrate a range of communication skills, including, non-verbal, listening, verbal, written. This course will develop the skills needed to communicate with those who have special needs, including: People who have speech and language difficulties, People who have impaired hearing, People who have impaired vision, People who have memory impairment, Channels of communication, The communication process, Communication skills, Non-verbal communication, Listening, Verbal communication, Written communication, Communicating with people with special needs.
