21 West Hill Place

21 West Hill Place is based in the attractive village of Aspley Guise in Bedfordshire.  21 West Hill Place is a residential care home registered with CSCI (The Commission for Social Care Inspection) for adults between the ages of 18-65 years who have a learning disability, and additional complex needs.  Because we believe in the importance of    living in a normal family-type environment this home only takes up to 5 men and/or women.  The home is furnished and decorated to reflect the individual characters who reside there.  All our residents are consulted with and involved in the design and furnishing of their respective home.

21 West Hill Place is staffed 24 hours a day, by committed highly skilled and regularly trained staff.  There are a minimum of two staff  working during the day and a night staff member. The Home Manager is      supernumerary to the staff team.  The Home also employs a Team Leader to work alongside the care and  support staff, plus a domestic support person, an activity coordinator and a gardener.   The Home has its own transport for service user’s use ie day trips, shopping and social events.

We allocate each service user a key worker.  The key worker will find out what their service user wants and needs, and what they want to do with their time.  He or she will also talk to family members to make sure that everyone is engaged in the process.  The key worker will help service users with the meetings that we hold to discuss their progress, and make sure that they get all the help that they need from doctors, social workers and other professionals.  Key workers will also help if service users wish to obtain work or go to college.

At 21 West Hill Place each service user has a room of their own.  Each room has a bed, a hand wash basin with mirror, a wardrobe cupboard to keep clothes in and a cupboard to keep other personal items, comfortable chairs and a table.  We like service users to feel that  everything they own is safe, so each room will be lockable.  Service users are encouraged to bring their own personal items. Service users can bring all or part of their own furniture, or we can provide all of the furniture requirements.

In addition to the personal rooms there are two reception rooms plus a large kitchen with dining area.  One room is mainly for watching TV or listening to music and the other is for activities, resident meetings or for service users to interact. This room has a computer for general use.  Service users can see visitors in their own rooms or another room, a reception room or take them for a walk in the grounds.  The home has a large beautiful garden with seating areas.  The lounge has SKY TV, and there is free view in each bedroom.  The home has 3 lavatories, a hand wash basin in each bedroom, 2 bathrooms and a shower room.  There is a large kitchen/dining room fitted with the latest appliances and a separate laundry room.
